SMX-QD10 is a green light interferometer for inspection of single fiber connectors of ST, FC, SC, LC, MU, APC, MIL-ST (M83522/16, MIL-C-83522), M29504/14 (MIL-PRF-29504/14) types, small format multi fiber connectors of MT-RJ and SMA 905, SMA 906 types.

SMX-QD10 interferometer provides white light mode for scanning connector surfaces with discontinuities up to 25 microns. The interferometer provides a practical resolution of 1 micron for inspection of small features like fiber buffer and for detection of connector defects.

The interferometer combines solid performance, compact size and reduced vibration sensitivity providing enough stability for normal work in a busy workshop.

The SMX-QD10 interferometer is supplied with the ISI (Interferometric Surface Inspection) analytical software.

Interferometeric Surface Inspection (ISI) is a general purpose analytical software using various algorithms such as phase shift narrow band or white light methods. ISI provides 3D surface reconstruction of fiber optic connector end face and measures various parameters such as radius of curvature of polish, fiber heights, polish off set, etc. In addition ISI stores test results in database and organizes them with identifiers that represent several configurable variables, such as job name, operator, customer, description, etc.

Reports are generated for a test group (job) or for single test, including all or partial measurement results. 3D scratch detection is provided according to various zones and user defined criteria. The ISI software is flexible as scan parameters and view layouts are provided by configuration files.
Measurements of single fiber connectors display and characterize the polished connector end-face providing surface information, such as ferrule radius of curvature, apex offset of polish, apex offset angle, fiber protrusion/under-cut, etc. 3D scratch detection is provided according to various zones and user defined criteria.

Measurements of multifiber connectors display and characterize the polished connector end-face providing surface information, such as angle of the polish, fiber protrusion, planar height differential, flatness deviation, etc.

Interferometry Glossary

Interferometer

In reference to testing fiber optic cable assemblies, an interferometer is used to measure the endface geometry of the connector after polishing.  An interferometer measures the differences in path length of light reflected off the connector endface.  Interferometer measurements are accurate to within one wavelength of the light used in measurement.
